Master Plumbers Association (MPA) of NSW strongly opposes the recent private member’s bill number 2248 introduced by Greens MLC Abigail Boyd. This bill seeks to advance the electrification agenda at the expense of Natural Gas, a vital resource for many households across the state.
In a recent vote yesterday afternoon, the NSW Labor government, alongside the Liberal/National opposition and members from various sensible crossbenches, resoundingly rejected this bill 33 votes to 6, emphasising the need for balanced energy solutions that recognise the benefits of Natural Gas. “The proposition put forth by the NSW Greens undermines the significant role that Natural Gas plays in providing reliable energy to households, particularly during blackouts,” stated Smith.
In his remarks, Smith criticised the Greens for promoting legislation without sufficient consultation with key stakeholders from industry. “It is concerning that legislation of this magnitude is moved without meaningful outreach to those directly impacted, including professionals and families who depend on a diversified energy supply,” he added.
MPA NSW firmly believes in maintaining a flexible energy system that incorporates multiple sources, acknowledging the importance of Natural Gas as a backup energy supply. Smith insists that a wise approach is to leverage the advantages of both Natural Gas and electricity to empower households, rather than limiting options to a singular fuel source.
The Association urges continued dialogue across the political spectrum to ensure that future energy solutions prioritise the interests and safety of all NSW residents.
