Government pulls the plug on dodgy heat pumps

The NSW Government is finally taking action on dodgy heat pump installations after weeks of media coverage and pressure from industry.

Following weeks of media scrutiny and warnings from Master Plumbers NSW, the NSW Government has launched a targeted compliance blitz on heat pump installations and vowed to crack down on the sale of poor-quality systems.

The Daily Telegraph today reports that Energy Minister Penny Sharpe is banning doorknocking sales tactics and introducing a mandatory five-year warranty on heat pumps. The Building Commission NSW will now investigate premises identified as high-risk, after earlier audits revealed compliance levels as low as 9 per cent.

Master Plumbers NSW has consistently raised the alarm about dangerous, illegal and substandard installations across the state.

We welcome this action. But there’s more to do to ensure safety, quality and accountability in the rollout of energy-efficient systems.

Consumers must remain vigilant. Only trust licensed professionals.
