A week of headlines. A growing crisis.

The Daily Telegraph has continued its coverage on the heat pump crisis, revealing that hundreds of thousands of discounted systems were sold in Australia without needing to meet official product performance standards.

Despite concerns raised by industry and government, a loophole in the Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) still has not been closed. Testing by one manufacturer found some imported heat pumps were performing at just 4 percent of their advertised efficiency.

Other units failed to meet the safe water temperature needed to kill Legionella bacteria, posing a serious health risk.

Master Plumbers Association of NSW has raised these issues with the government, warning that the lack of national standards and oversight is placing Australian households at risk.
